The Guest Wing is equipped with a full kitchen, open to patients and their families. A living/dining room features a fireplace and a children’s corner with a TV, toys, games and books. It is not unusual to find guests celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and holiday dinners with loved ones in the living/dining room.
The Guest Wing’s Chapel provides a private place for reflection and meditation for family members and hospice caregivers. The Hospice Chaplain provides
spiritual care for guests and their family members and friends during their stay at Hospice House.
Hospice volunteers help provide personal and supportive care in the Guest Wing, including providing companionship, cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, grocery shopping, playing music, gardening, and arranging fresh flowers for the rooms at Hospice House.
A handicapped van, which is available for transporting guests when needed, is also available for families to use to take loved ones on outings, such as lunch in the park or a drive in the country. It is not unusual to have hospice volunteers playing music in the hallways, including hammered dulcimer, harp, guitar or piano. Pets may also visit guests and are part of the holistic approach of care in the Guest Wing.
Our medical partner, Shore Home Care Hospice, sends hospice nurses and hospice social workers to visit guests and their families in the Guest Wing, just as they would if they were at home. Shore Home Care Hospice (not Talbot Hospice Foundation) receives insurance reimbursement for their services.
Families are expected to participate in the support and care of their loved one while they are in the Guest Wing. In some instances, families may be required to help with the caregiving or, if unable, provide paid caregivers during their loved one’s stay. Guest Wing staff will work with each family to determine their capacity to fulfill this obligation.
All room and board in the Hospice House Guest Wing are provided without charge through the generous support of our community. Talbot Hospice Foundation does not receive any insurance reimbursement for its services.
The Hospice House Guest Wing has its own admission criteria that address the needs of each patient. It is not a “first come first serve” philosophy, but a set of criteria that determine those patients whose needs are most urgent.
